SAA Football Frequently Asked Questions

When does the football season begin?

2017 SAA Football begins on Monday, July 24th at 5:45 PM, at Sharon / Campanelli park located on Sharon Drive. (approximately one block east of the intersection of Braintree and Sharon Drive) Tackle players will need their helmets and cleats. All players are to report in shorts and t-shirt wearing protective cup. Also, all players must have mouth guards and need to bring plenty of water and/or Gatorade.

How many nights a week does flag football practice?


For the first two weeks, all flag players will practice Monday through Thursday nights from 6 to 7:30 PM. Beginning on the third week, Flag will practice on Monday and Wednesday nights at Nathan Hale Elementary School from 6 to 7:30 PM.

Are tackle football playing levels developed by a players age or weight?

The short answer is tackle playing levels are developed by both age and weight limitations. Please click here for the TCYFL Divisions by Age/Weight.

Is attending football practice mandatory?

Yes, although conflicts occur from time to time, repeated unexcused practice absences can result in a loss of playing time during games.

How do I register for football?

Visit the SAA homepage or SAA Football webpage and click on the REGISTER ONLINE button in the top right hand corner.  Football registration usually starts in the March/April time frame.  The second equipment hand out will be Saturday July 22nd, 2017 at the SAA house. Onsite registration will be available that day as well

How many nights a week does tackle football practice?

All tackle players will practice Monday through Friday nights from 6 to 8 PM for the first 3-4 weeks.  Selected older levels may practice on Saturday mornings as well. Once school begins, tackle practice is three nights per week, except for our new 6 YO/75 lb Instructional level, they will only practice 2 nights a week.

How much does it cost to play tackle or flag football?

Tackle football cost $250 per player. For multiple tackle players in the same family, the cost is $250 for the first player and $210 for every tackle player thereafter. Flag football costs $130 per player.  At each level, players keep their game jerseys at the end of the season.  (dating or common law marriage does not qualify for the same family tackle football player family fundraiser discount)

What equipment will be issued to tackle players? Flag players?

Tackle football players will be issued a helmet, shoulder pads, practice pants, knee pads, thigh pads, hip and tailbone pad. Both tackle and flag players will receive game pants and jerseys prior to their first game. Flag players will now receive a soft helmet with their game uniform.  All players get to keep their Game Jerseys!

Where is football practice?

For the first three weeks, all tackle and flag players will practice together at Campanelli Park, located on Sharon Drive approximately one block east of the intersection of Braintree and Sharon Drive.  After the initial three weeks, practice will take place at one of several locations in Schaumburg based on what team you are on.  See the Field Locations link for specific locations.

How are tackle teams selected?

Player evaluations take place during the first week of practice. Generally Big Ten teams are selected at the beginning of the second week. After Big Ten selections have been made, remaining players are selected via an equal draft process to form Pac level teams.

Can SAA Football tackle players request to play on a certain team with friends, or play for a certain coach?

No, special requests regarding team placement will not be considered at any time.  Players are evaluated and selected for the Big Ten teams at each playing level. Remaining tackle players will be placed on respective Pac Ten teams via an equal draft process to ensure player balance across all Pac Ten teams.

Are there different playing levels in tackle football?

Yes, SAA Football plays in The Chicagoland Youth Football League (TCYFL) that houses two different playing levels based on player skill and development. The Big Ten Division is a competitive division and the Pac Ten Division is a developmental division.   There are 6 different weight/age groups, see the Division link here.

How many games will be played at the Flag level?

Flag typically plays 10 games per season every Saturday morning.

What if I forget my mouth guard, will I still be able to practice?

No, players cannot play games or practice without a mouth guard. Mouth guards will be available for $2.00 each at the concession stand or from your head coach.

How many games will be played at the tackle levels?

The Tackle seasons usually consists of 8 to 10 regular season games plus playoffs. 

Are any discounts available to SAA Football players from suppliers for additional football gear such as spikes, socks, practice jerseys, mouth guard, and/or Under Armor?

Along with walk-in registration and equipment handout on Saturday, June 11th, our equipment supplier  will be conducting a football equipment tent sale featuring football gear for both flag and tackle players including spikes, athletic cups, socks, practice jerseys, under armor heat and cold gear.

 

When / where will tackle football equipment be issued?

Players will be contacted for their specific pick-up time if they have registered in advance. Late football registration and equipment handout will be held at the SAA Office on a Saturday in July.

 

How do I pay for football registration?

Credit card payments can be made during on-line registration by following the links, or cash/check payments can be made at the SAA Office, 217 S. Civic Drive., Schaumburg, Il.

 

Is there a walk-in registration process?

SAA Football walk-in registration will take place on Saturday June 1st 2019 at the SAA Office, 217 S. Civic Drive, Schaumburg, IL. Once players are registered, or on-line registration has been verified, tackle players will be sent over to the adjacent SAA House to receive their tackle football equipment. Players will be contacted for their specific pick-up time. Late football registration will be held at the SAA Office on a Saturday in July.

 

What are the SAA Office hours of business?

SAA office hours are as follows; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 7am-1PM. The office is closed on Thursdays. A drop box is available for after hour drop-offs. Please use an enveloped marked with the sport you are paying for and include the players name you are paying for.
