SAA Volleyball Rules & Regulations

USA Volleyball Rules

USA Volleyball Rulebook

SAA Volleyball follows the USA Rulebook for our Youth Volleyball League

Click on the volleyball for more information.

Please Note: We do make some modifications to these rules within our program for some of the different levels of our league.

Beginner Level :

7 points max is allowed for each team, per server, until a side out is awarded to the other team. This is to ensure there is more volleyball playing time at this level.

* There are 3 serving lines to which these kids will be allowed to serve from.

Serving Progress Rules:

At the start of each match (match= best of 3 sets), players will start at the beginner line.  Once the player makes 5 serves over the net, they must move back to and stay at the intermediate line for the rest of the match.

At the start of the next match, players may reset at the beginner line.  All players must get the chance to serve in each match.  Coaches will be encouraged to start the better servers at the intermediate line if serving consistently.

A server will be allowed to let the ball drop 1 time if they do not like their toss, but then the next serve needs to make contact. When allowing the ball to drop the ball can be caught.

Intermediate :

7 points max is allowed for each team, per server, until a side out is awarded to the other team. This is to ensure there is more volleyball playing time at this level.  Mid way thru the season (1st week of October) this will change to regular game play which means there will be no limit on service points.

* A server will be allowed to let the ball drop 1 time, if they do not like their toss but then the next serve needs to make contact. When allowing the ball to drop the ball cannot be caught or touch any part of the servers body or the other team will be awarded with the side out.

Serving Progress Rules:

Line #1 – they get 5 serves within any matchThey will move to next line. They will stay there for rest of SEASON until:

Baseline - where then they would stay there for the rest of the SEASON!

* There is no moving BACK to the previous line once they have been able to get 5 serves over at any of the lines within a match.

 * A server will be allowed to let the ball drop 1 time, if they do not like their toss, but then the next serve needs to make contact. When allowing the ball to drop the ball can be caught.

Advanced :

*LIMITED modifications at this time. We will follow all USA Volleyball rules.

* A server will be allowed to let the ball drop 1 time per service rotation, if they do not like their toss, but then the next serve needs to make contact. When allowing the ball to drop the ball can be caught.

So, when you are doing your line up please note that ALL players must serve before they are rotated out.

Modify your 5-1 or rotation to accommodate this.

Reminder...

COACHES - ALL Levels - PLEASE NOTE:

At all levels - Pleas make sure you are NOT subbing in people who can serve over others that are still learning just to get points to win, this is not acceptable

We are here to teach, coach & challenge the kids to get better – not teach them just to win.
