USA Volleyball Rules

USA Volleyball Rulebook

SAA Volleyball follows the USA Rulebook for our Youth Volleyball League

Click on the volleyball for more information and/or rules for 2107-2019

Please Note: We do make some modifications to these rules within our program for some of the different levels of our league.

Beginner Level :

7 points max is allowed for each team, per server, until a side out is awarded to the other team. This is to ensure there is more volleyball playing time at this level.

* There are 3 serving lines to which these kids will be allowed to serve from. Midway thru the season (1st week of October) we will implement the rule that once a server gets 2 serves over they will need to move back to the next line so that they can challenge themselves, as eventually they will need to be able to serve from the regulation line (baseline) of the volleyball court as they advance in the sport.

* If at the next serving line the server gets the ball over, that is where they will remain for the remainder of the game or until they get 2 more serves over as then they would move back to the baseline and the same rules apply. If the server does not get a serve over at the next service line once they move back, they are welcome to try from the prior line until 2 serves make it over the net again.

*  A server will be allowed to let the ball drop 2 times, if they do not like their toss, but then the next serve needs to make contact. If they score a point(s) and they serve again, and they do not like their toss, they will be allowed to drop the ball again, max 2 times, but again the next serve needs to make contact. This rule remains until a side out. When allowing the ball to drop the ball cannot be caught or touch any part of the servers body or the other team will be awarded with the side out.

Intermediate :

7 points max is allowed for each team, per server, until a side out is awarded to the other team. This is to ensure there is more volleyball playing time at this level.  Mid way thru the season (1st week of October) this will change to regular game play which means there will be no limit on service points.
