SafeSport Abuse Reporting

In compliance with the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017, all SAA Board Members, DOC's, and coaches, are required to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect, including child sexual abuse, within 24 hours of becoming aware of the suspected abuse. The reports should be made to all of the following entities:

  1. Local law enforcement by calling 911
  2. Illinois Department of Children & Family Services by calling 800-25-ABUSE (800-252-2873 or TTY 1-800-358-5117)
  3. The SAA-SCU Head Commissioner via Mike.Szwaja@SAA-Online.Com (if you would prefer to make the report by phone, please email your phone number and you will be contacted)
  4. Additionally, please also communicate this report to the U.S. Soccer integrity hotline at https://www.ussoccer.com/safeguarding/report-a-concern or (312) 528-7004 and the U.S. Center for SafeSport at https://uscenterforsafesport.org/report-a-concern/ . Reporting to the U.S. Soccer integrity hotline and the U.S. Center for SafeSport is not a substitute for reporting to law enforcement, child protective services, and/or the FBI.

Any individual who is required, but fails, to report suspected child abuse is subject to criminal penalties.

SAA is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our players. To that end, all of our volunteers and staff who have contact with our players are required to complete the SafeSport abuse prevention and recognition training, and pass a background check. SAA will not tolerate retaliation against a volunteer or employee who reports suspected child abuse in good faith.
