2020 SAA Football Letter from the Comissioner

SAA Football Community

2020 and the onset of COVID-19 has been tough for our community and communities throughout our nation as we have struggled with understanding how this virus spreads and impacts all that are exposed to it.   Sports, especially football have awaited decisions from our states and local officials on the fate of fall sports.  Now that we have guidance, it is time to focus on the safe development of our student-athletes as we continue to teach and develop their bodies and minds.

SAA Football will immediately begin reimbursing families for both Tackle and Flag football as we have determined as a board that the risks outweigh the benefits.  However, we will be holding a series of “FREE” Saturday morning camps during the next several months to continue our efforts to teach and develop our young athletes.  We are requesting that each of you go to our website and register your student-athletes for these camps (The first camp is scheduled to begin August 29th from 10 am to Noon).

SAA Football has established clear guidance and protocols that our board has approved for sport camp participation.  A few notables that each of you should be aware and that we are strongly encouraging all parents and observers to maintain social distance.  You will be required to be at least 30 feet from all field activities unless you are wearing proper face covering.  In addition, the following are expected to be our routine:

  •       Parents are requested to monitor their child(ren) prior to bringing them to activities for fever, cough, headaches, loss of smell, loss of taste, temperature exceeding 100.3.
  •       SAA Football Camp members will establish a checkpoint to monitor temperature on a daily basis.  Any child exhibiting symptoms (temperature) will not be allowed onto the fields.
  •       There will be no shared beverages, etc. and all players are expected to have their own water that is labelled with their names to avoid transfer situations.
  •       Any shared equipment will be sanitized approximately every 15 minutes to ensure cleanliness
  •       Groups will be divided to promote social distance and to maintain cohesiveness.  These designated consistent groups will be trained together over the course of all workouts.

Masks are not required for student-athletes participating on the field of play but will be expected to be worn as they come to the field (they can remove them and keep them with their belongings).  Parents, we ask that you wear face covering available while at the park to ensure that as social distancing requirements cannot be met, you are protected.

SAA Football's main objective is to ensure that we are providing a safe environment for our student-athletes and are doing everything possible to ensure that we have fun as we develop.
