This is a trying time for many people and organizations. SAA had to cancel our beloved spring sports seasons due to the COVID-19 outbreak and resultant stay at home order. We miss all of the players, families, sports, and camaraderie that come with SAA sports. All of the volunteers that run SAA cannot wait to get back out on the fields, into the gyms, etc to start this up again.
Our office has worked tirelessly to issue refunds and details around such to the spring sports. Most, if not all, are now issued and participant families will and have received their refunds for the Spring sports seasons. This was no small feat, and we still have a few more to go, which is due to technical issues with the registration system, but please have patience as it will all be done as quickly as possible.
It seems the trends are starting to move in the right direction and IL has transitioned to Phase 3 as of 5/30/2020. SAA is doing what it can to have activity, as necessary, during Phase 3 while following guidelines. The IL DCEO (Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity) has released official State Guidelines that youth sports organizations must follow during phase 3 activities. These can be seen here
Rec sports do not practice out of season, or have the need for additional training in facilities or on fields. Travel sports programs, however, do. They train when able, have practices, and may still be playing in some out of state tournaments. Due to this, when phase 3 opened our travel teams started some practicing in their facilities and on the fields. You may see them out there when you drive by. They are doing this because they are following the state guidelines, and they are approved to do so.
SAA sports are working hard to figure out how Fall seasons (both rec and travel) can run and what that will look like in a phase 4 environment. We have hope we can still have Fall Sports seasons, meaning; practices, games, training clinics, etc... All within phase 4 guidelines. Look for your sports registrations to open and following instructions as indicated by the sport when you register.
